Real Madrid isn’t concerned about Jude Bellingham’s lack of goals in La Liga this season, as they have Kylian Mbappe, a proven scorer who could hit 45 goals.
The English midfielder was brought in to contribute both in playmaking and goalscoring at Santiago Bernabeu, especially after Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia left a notable gap. Bellingham met expectations last season, netting 23 goals across all competitions and helping Real Madrid secure La Liga and Champions League titles, even putting him in the Ballon d’Or conversation.
However, this season the 21-year-old has yet to score in 10 league appearances. Is it a cause for concern?
No Cause for Alarm
Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti sees no issue with Bellingham’s current goal tally, emphasizing his invaluable work rate.
“He’s playing very well and improving, despite some challenges with his ankle and shoulder. His hard work on the pitch is crucial for us,” Ancelotti shared with the media.
“Last year, it was vital for him to score because we had lost a top striker like Benzema. This year, we don’t face that pressure since we have a player capable of scoring 45 goals,” Ancelotti explained.
Praise for Mbappe
Mbappe, who has set his sights on a 50-goal target for the 2024/2025 season, has already scored eight goals. Ancelotti added that Real Madrid is in no hurry to push the former PSG star.
“We’re pleased with his goals; he’s essential to the team. Just look at the Dortmund match where he played a key role in two of our goals,” said Ancelotti.
“There’s no rush from me, the team, or him. His talent will continue to shine as he grows, and he has the quality to make it happen,” he concluded.
